In 2023, the HGRG celebrated 50 years of advancing historical geography in the UK and internationally. Celebrations took place alongside our annual Practising Historical Geography event held at the University of Nottingham, and the conference brought together a range of activities and speakers to highlight the significant contributions of historical geographers and promote the community HGRG has supported over five decades.

Over the course two days in November, workshops and panels included discussions on the use of archival collections in geography, the pasts and futures of historical geography, and a panel celebrating the work of recent HGRG Dissertation Prize winners.
